El Gato Classic 2 - Skate Legends Jam Session weekend Dec. 4-6, 2015

The 2nd El Gato Classic happened this past weekend in Palm Springs Dec. 4-6, 2015. Organized by Skate Legend/Pastor Eddie Elguera. This event brings together Skateboard legends that cover the Hester Series/Gold Cup Series Era which was from 1978-1981 for a weekend of skating, art and reconnecting. The cool thing is a lot of these ex pro skaters haven't seen each other in 30+ years unless they showed up at last years El Gato Classic. A lot of the guys still skate but not all join in on the jam session but are there to see old teammates, friends, reconnect, cheer each other on like the old contest days. Lots of hugs and smiles and signing each other boards and tshirts, who knew skating would come back and skateparks would be in every down and FREE now. These guys deserve the credit and this gathering this time brought names like Eddie Elguera, Christian Hosoi, Tony Hawk, Eric Dressen, Doug'Pinespple"Saladino, Lonny Hiramoto, Scott Dunlap, Layne Oaks, Steve Alba, Jamie Godfry, Lester Kasai, Chuck Huts, Paul Schmitt, Brad Bowman, Keven "worm'Anderson, Bobby Valdez, Daryl Miller, Billy Ruff, Mike McGill, Howard Hood, Dave 'Raver" Andrecht, John Lucero, Cindy Whitehead, Robin Logan, Dennis Martinez, Steve Evans, Freddie Desoto, Doug Marker Shreddi Repas, Dave Duncan, Eddie Rategui, MRZ and many others.

I will be editing more videos together of this Legends pool session so check back later. thanks

75 street artists throw up for a one-night-only art show in an abandoned mansion in Los Angeles

On Saturday Oct. 10, 2015 for a one night only art show in an abandoned mansion in LA. NYC based street artist Hanksy helmed this art show with Surplus Candy in an abandoned mansion in south central Los Angeles. The show was teased on Instagram that week on some of the 75 participating artists from LA, NY, Chicago, and Austin who came out to paint inside this century old rundown mansion for this one-night-only-show. The secret location was released a couple hours before the opening. Disneyland-ish lines snaked around the garden to the back entrance of the mansion for this one night only viewing which would be painted over the next day. This was a once in a lifetime event to see artwork from well know street artists in this crazy space from Morley, Craola, Hanksy, Wrdsmth, Lookatart, Starfightera, Drew Merritt, Conner Tingley, Fanakapan, Steiner, Greg Frederick, Deity, BD White, Thrasbird etc Hanksy told LAist, "It's over a century old and while it's a bit banged up, it's still a magnificent beast. And after it's all painted up, it'll be be a perfect metaphor for Hollywood. Pretty and pristine on the outside, but all fucked up on the inside.

Channel 3 live at the House of Blues Anaheim 8.1.2015

Channel 3 opened for SLF at HOB in the OC, 2 of my favorite bands on the same bill. It's always fun to see CH3 blast thru their songs, old classics with some great new songs from their last album Land of the Free. Here is CH3 playing Manzanar / Land of the Free,Indian Summer, No Love and Best of Intentions. Enjoy.

Stiff Little Fingers live at House of Blues Sunset Strip 7.31.2015 the final shows before it's torn down.

Stiff Little Fingers played the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip 7.31.2015 one last time before it's torn down to make room for another Hotel, yeah just what the Strip needs another hotel. Sad to see a good music venue gone. It Nice to hear some old SLF songs added into the setlist like Harp and Bits of Kids. SLF has always skewed their set to whats going on in the world. this final show was packed with fans and people wanted to see a great show at HOB one last time. The next night I went down to Orange County to see SLF with another favorite band CH3. I'll be posting some videos of that show.

X live - playing songs during their full album Los Angeles show at the Observatory in the OC on 7.9.2015

X live - playing songs during their full album Los Angeles show at the Observatory in the OC on 7.9.2015 It was a fun show to finally hear the whole LOS ANGELES album played in its entirety in order. There were alot of technical difficulties during the show because of amp problems but still worth the wait. hey shit happens and the crowd went with the flow. This show also turned into a benefit for their guitarist Billy Zoom who was just diagnosed with cancer, he decided to play these 4 shows where an album would be played in its entirety at the Observatory in Orange County. His Chemo is to start right after these shows are done and they will be looking for a fill-in guitarist for the rest of the summer tour. Prayers go out to Billy.

Rustic Canyon’s Nazi Ruins “Murphy Ranch” in the Santa Monica Mountains

In the 1930s Nazi sympathizers built a refuge in the Pacific Palisades. Herr Schmidt, Winona and Norman Stephens, and their followers occupied a self-contained stronghold in what is now Rustic Canyon between Sullivan Ridge and Will Rodgers State Park. Murphy Ranch was designed to serve as a hold out for fans of the Third Reich waiting for America to fall to the Nazis. Instead, the ranch was raided by U.S. authorities and closed in 1941. The abandoned buildings were transformed into an artists’ colony in the 60s and 70s, but were abandoned after the Mandeville Canyon Fire in 1978. Today the grounds of Murphy Ranch are uninhabited, dilapidated, covered in graffiti, and open to hikers. While much of the history is lost, several structures remain, along with long cement staircases that still link Murphy Ranch to Sullivan Ridge Fire Road, providing a 3.85-mile hike with 325 feet of elevation gain.

Sunken City in San Pedro, California

In 1929, a sizeable section of land in the southern tip of San Pedro began to unexplainably slip into the sea. The 600 block of Paseo Del Mar began moving seaward in 1929 and continued to slip until the mid 1930s. Movement was measured as high as 11 inches a day. Due to quick action, all but two of the houses on the seaward side of the street were moved before toppling into the sea. The eastern section of Point Fermin Park was lost and the entire area is very unstable, yet not moving at the present time. Geologists have termed this phenomenon as a "slump" and this area has been featured in many geological studies and books.

Ai Weiwei @large exhibit on Alcatraz San Francisco

Beijing based artist Ai Wei wei whose art lies between art and activism created new work designed especially for Alcatraz in San Francisco. The legendary federal penitentiary (Escape from Alcatraz) also the site of the Native American heritage protest. Ai Wei wei's art installation included sculpture, sound and mixed media. It occupied four locations on the Island and some these places have been off limits to the public until now. This exhibition addresses the situation of people around the world who have been deprived of their freedom for speaking out about their beliefs just like Ai himself. He is still not permitted to travel outside of China and was unable to visit Alcatraz. He developed the artwork in his studio in Beijing.

Chloe Kim wins gold in Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe

Chloe Kim is the future of woman's snowboarding. Chloe Kim at 14 years old became the youngest snowboarder to ever win a gold medal in winter X. The Olympics said she was too young so she didn't get to compete in Sochi last year even though she was ranked No.2 in the world at the time. Nice win to the road to PyeongChang South Korea for Winter Olympic 2018.
